Emma Goldman (June 27 , 1869 – May 14, 1940) was an influential anarchist author and activist from Kaunas, Lithuania (Kovno, Russia at the time of her birth). In 1885 she emigrated to the US. The horrific events of the Haymarket Affair first attracted her to anarchism. She began writing, publishing, and orating, drawing crowds into the thousands. In 1906 she founded the famous Mother Earth journal.
